My Story

Before picking up a camera, I served for 20 years in the British military, including operational tours around the world. When that chapter ended, I swapped my rifle for a camera — and found a new way to focus on the world around me. The awareness, patience and determination I learned during my service have stayed with me ever since, and they inform everything I do as a photographer.

My photography journey started in live music venues across the North East. From local unsigned artists taking their first steps on stage to internationally touring acts — concert photography in the photographers' pit, capturing the raw energy of live performance. Over the years I've photographed artists at major UK festivals and venues, building a music photography collection that spans rock, pop, metal and soul. That work also led to my Local Legends series: a dedicated collection celebrating the North East music scene and the artists who define it.

Wildlife photography came later, but quickly became just as important to me. Based in Northumberland, I spend early mornings in the field photographing barn owls at dusk, red squirrels in woodland, kingfishers on the riverbank, short-eared owls hunting the moor, ospreys in flight and foxes in the snow. It is a very different pace to the concert pit — long waits, muddy boots and the kind of stillness that sharpens your eye. That one perfect moment makes every hour worthwhile.

All of my work is available as gallery-quality archival fine art prints, printed on fine art paper with Lucia Pro II pigment inks and delivered throughout the UK. A selection of images is also available as limited edition hand-signed prints — numbered editions of 50, each with a Certificate of Authenticity.

I was also fortunate to be inspired and mentored by photographers Mik Critchlow and Mick Hutson, who have both sadly passed away. Their kindness, encouragement and love of photography helped shape my journey, and their influence is still a part of every image I make.

Whether I'm at the front of a crowd or quietly waiting in a Northumberland field at dawn, my aim is simple: to capture honest moments and tell the stories behind them.
